Career in Midwest

Been working in Mechanical Engineering related field in Midwest since graduation and thought I was doing good until I stumbled across this app: 1. compensation for engineers ranges from 70k to 125k ( for Principal Engineers) and don’t really have RSU/ refresher concept. 2. Work is pretty cyclical and mundane sometimes. 3. Hires are from local colleges, do not see Stanford , Caltech, Ivy graduates. Even for Managers, don’t have MBAs from Booth, Wharton ... You get what I am saying. Somewhat lack of global perspective. 4. Sluggish project timelines. The weather portion ( brutal winters) is another thing i hate. Seriously Chicago asides, I dont see Midwest as exciting from career growth perspective in fly over cities !

Then come out here to SV where you’ll get paid X2. Then proceed to spend it all on some crap apartment for 50% of your net pay. Then bust your ass 12hr days because, you know, the hustle. Then proceed to burn out with nothing to show for because you paid more taxes on your stock options than what it’s worth.
