How would you feel if you were invited to a wedding that you had to pay for? I was invited to a brunch which will serve as some type of wedding reception (no invite to actual wedding ceremony) and the fee is not expensive but am feeling offended by the sheer idea that they are asking for payment. I inquired about the fee & they went even further to say ‘I’m not paying for 30 people to eat brunch, and if I do, it will only be the people with money because they’ll buy more expensive gifts” Now I really don’t want to go. What do you people think?
Despicable behaviour, you don't need friends like that
Shameful
That quoted sentence makes the person sound like an awful person - not worth your time.
Rude behavior, especially with the qualifying statement of only paying for brunch for those they know will buy expensive gifts. Is this a cultural thing? In the U.S., this would be considered rude. However, as an American, I have seen pretty obnoxious behavior from wedding guests and the couple getting married in the last decade. In other words, nothing surprises me anymore.
These are actually Americans
No points for guessing this one.
So friends of mine had a very small wedding and reception, like almost only family, and so invited a larger group to join them for brunch beforehand. I honestly can’t recall if we paid for ourselves or not but even if we had, I would not have been offended by that because it was just an effort to allow us to celebrate with them and meet some of the family. But the response that they gave when you inquired about the fee changes things for me; it’s clear they’re not very conscientious people :/
I would be okay paying if the bride and groom were poor but after hearing a statement like that I would not go
I agree. The fact that this is practically just a money grab is the part that bothers me the most. There won’t even be a ceremony. Smh
I don't even go for free weddings.
I was neutral til I saw the quote. Hard pass.
Absolutely not. Even a tip jar at a wedding is tacky. Your guests shouldn’t have to be reaching into their pockets...
