I am about to get phone from employer (Google). 1/ is it like FB, you have to give it back when leaving or they just reimburse you to get a phone? 2/ I thought to use it as my own, until I saw a post of someone saying he keeps a personal phone and use the work one just for work.. is that a thing? Thoughts and vites for each side please..
I use company phone for work and personal. It saves on your bills. The downside is you’re always connected to work. The plus side is I no longer have to remember if I brought both phones with me or worry if I lost one somewhere.
Its a pain, but a separate work phone means I don’t look at work messages unless I really want/need to. Less stress overall.
Company phone = Company is the legal person. Company can request any and all information they want from Telecom provider about the use of their phone. Company monitoring disclosures are likely displayed when you order the phone.
I guess you can’t watch pornhub on company phone? 😇
I got mine fresh from the store, looks like it's hardly monitored since it was effectively factory reset - I would need to enroll it to the highest level of access (code/bugs on phone) in order to give the employer more permissions. I know plenty of people who use their work phones for personal reasons/as main phone and so do I. I even transferred my personal number. No one minds as long as you keep your usage level reasonable and don't brag too much about it to your colleagues who never asked for one.
Can any G Engineer request one free phone? Does it require a legit reason?
Do SWE get phone at Google? Or do they need permission for it.? If so, how difficult is to get relevant approvals ?
If you do on-call duties you get it. Otherwise, depends on your manager.
Don’t count on the company phone for anything but work calls. The ability for them to remote wipe is discouraging enough to not trust it with any personal information.
Can you insert personal sim as a second sim in the company phone itself, along with the work sim
Anything the company provides they can/will monitor. Suggest keeping your personal phone and only use theirs for work.
Phone calls can't be recorded but call detail record is fair game
They have root access to the phone. They probably can monitor keystrokes, etc.
