I am looking into moving to Canada from Bay Area and would like to understand the average TC for a sr dev at these employers:

Google
Amazon: 140K-200K L5, 215K-300K L6, both in Vancouver
Microsoft: 220K/75K/20% L66
Salesforce:140K-160K, LMTS@Vancouver
Shopify: 130k/30k, Senior; 150K/40K Lead
SAP: 120k Senior@Vancouver
Apple
EA
Expedia
Tableau
Splunk

Creating a CAD TC list for Canada would help others evaluating the move as well.
I will keep the post updated with numbers collected. Breakdown is Base/Stock[/Bonus] if present.

TC:160K

This is the target compensation range for senior developers without stock appreciation.

With stock appreciation, folks are making 250-400K+

For instance, my target is 230K but with stock appreciation, I’m going to make 305 this year (145 + 160)

I don't have any insight personally, but in Ontario at least, in 5 months, all job postings will be required by law to include the salary range. That should make things easier.

Also this isn't for senior dev, but it may also be helpful - it's a spreadsheet of self reported new grad tech salaries in Canada: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pt-itiRQc_bcMxbddYP0Kv_X81bQDUoW2dUfYQRVg4E/htmlview#

And one last thing to keep in mind, the Canadian dollar is worth like 70% of the USD right now, and all these salaries are in CAD.

Thanks, the spreadsheet is still useful as it gives a good idea of how employers rank w.r.t. compensation

"Starting on January 1, 2019, Ontario will:

      - Require all publicly advertised job postings to include a salary rate or range
      - Bar employers from asking a job candidate about their past compensation
      - Prohibit reprisals against employees who discuss or disclose compensation
      - Establish a framework to require larger employers to track and report compensation gaps based on gender and other diversity characteristics, to be determined through consultation.

Once fully implemented, these measures would require employers to publicly post that data within their own workplaces, in addition to reporting them to the province"

The system is graduated. Your effective tax rate is going to be in the 27-38% range in almost all cases.

You can expect around 60k to 220k for a senior engineer, in Canada. I would try shopify I believe seniors get around 120-130k base and like 30k stock, and senior leads around 150k and 40k stock.

I find Ottawa on an average pays very well compared to Toronto. In Ottawa with couple of year experience, you can have 90-100k in software.
