Levels.fyi says L67 manager is a senior director. Is that accurate?

Google Huhf13 Mar 23, 2018

Yes, but title does not correspond to F/G director

Microsoft MSFT DE Mar 23, 2018

No that’s not correct. At least not in product teams. A product director is typically partner or more.

Microsoft 9229f Mar 23, 2018

Depends on the company. Can be a VP in some.

Microsoft yMcg47 Mar 23, 2018

Principal mgr is 65? Director is 66? And senior director is 67? Is that right?

Microsoft MSFT DE Mar 23, 2018

No. Principal manager can be 65-67. Director is partner (68+). The rare L67 Director is doing the next level job and expecting a promo.

Microsoft @zzzzz Mar 23, 2018

Depends. Lots of principal managers, and they could be anywhere between 65 and 67. One I know just made partner and is simply partner dev manager now.

Weird title maps

What is a level 67 engineering manager then? A director or group manager?

Microsoft 9229f Mar 24, 2018

Can be either

What is a director st Microsoft? And how is it different from group manager?

Microsoft hoosfoos Mar 27, 2018

Most replies here are a bit off. Director is 65-67 in a non-engineering org. Principal is 65-67 in an engineering org. Even this is not always true but usually is. Partner != Director. MS doesn’t talk about M% levels, but does *sometimes* qualify the title with the “group” word. e.g., GPM or “Group Program Manager”. Most anything beyond the terms “Partner”, “Director”, “Principal” don’t have any consistency in these band ranges.
