Currently at Apple. Interviewing at Google X and Facebook

I have been at Apple for a few years, currently IC5 with TC of 400K (180k+40k bonus+170k RSU refresher), and 2018 W2 was over $500k due to stock going up.
I have a good relationship with my manager but I feel stuck in the position with no promotion possible, so a couple months ago I sent my CV to Google X, Facebook and Netflix. Those 3 companies because I think they are the only ones that could offer me more than I’m making now and also match my unvested RSUs (400k).
I heard back from Google and Facebook, situation is:

Google X: done already 2 phone interviews and been invited for the final on-site interview in 2 weeks. I have always been attracted by X, BUT (big but) I discovered that they don’t give Alphabet RSUs but stock from the X company you work on. I think this is too much of a risk so unless they offer a huge fixed salary, I don’t think is gonna fly with me.

Facebook: I have the second phone interview next week. I heard they pay even more than Apple but not sure.

I have been considered a high achiever the last 3 years (9/9), I’m treated quite well, and not a lot of pressure. So in general I’m doing good but I just felt stuck and that maybe other companies could offer more.

I just wanted to post to heard from other people who moved from Apple to one of this companies, what is your advice or just read some Blind wisdom.
This is for Operations and my yoe is around 15y.

X is known internally for being a terrible place to work. I wouldn’t advise it.

This is quite good feedback because for outsiders they make you think that X is the elite of Google. Something like Special Projects at Apple

Really? Heard the opposite, that it has the most exciting things to work on. Friends there say everyone tries to switch into X saying it’s like the Google within Google

X has some truly awesome projects and that draws people to it. I have a lot of friends that went over there and every one came back to Google within a couple years. Their feedback has been that the management there really doesn’t care at all about the people and treats people poorly. I don’t want to get into specifics and out anyone, but I’ve heard it from enough high level people I trust that all my interest in X went away.

Will post back with details if I get offers. So far the interview process and difficulty for both companies has been very similar to when I interviewed at Apple

SPLK should be on your list. Our published average TC is highest in the industry.

Been that way for a long time; google for median pay and you’ll find recent articles putting Facebook at #2 behind Splunk. Here’s an older article. Also we’ve been active on diversity & inclusion (equal pay) so that affects median.

Oh, I was asking Splunk for their YoE and TC. I wanted a data point rather than a median.

I’m at 10 years and 450k, but I’m basically doing Brian Chesky’s b****work all day.

So Fb after negotiating offered $165k salary + $15 sign on + $120K RSU. E5 level. TC $250K didn’t accept because currently I make more

Wing (Google X) offered $175k salary + $10K sign on and 200,000 options. Didn’t accept because they didn’t tell me options value or company value. Also no RSU refreshers

    So I’m staying at Apple

What is your annual refresher at Apple? I’m assuming your IC4?

As a follow up, Facebook has lowballed me hard with an offer of a TC at $195K which is half of what I’m making now. Google X has not offered yet but since they don’t give Alphabet stock but the Google X company stock, I’ll also not accept it. So I’m staying at current position.

Want to add that I recently made aware the 2 companies that I’m interviewing with each other and suddenly Facebook is very interested and wants to accelerate their hiring process. If I go ahead in the process this could help me with their offers.

Cool. Good to know. Apple easily pays the most for HW Ops, as long as you can put up with the hours

They don’t mention the level in the offer but I assume that both job positions would be in same level as actual and a lateral move for me
