I have a decent dev job that pays well for an entry developer. I make 75k a year. School has always been a struggle for me and I never did well in it. I'm at my last semester with 3 classes left. 1 of those classes I've struggled and repeated twice. If I fail again I cant get my BS computer science degree. I am debating if this is good enough for me to stop college and continue working. But I am afraid I'll never be able to move up in my career or is that just me overthinking. My goal was to work in the financial tech sector someday and if I could finish school go for masters in financial engineering.
What is the class and why are you failing it?
It's on theory of languages dfa, nfa, induction, etc. The professor is anal about his grading. One small error, or not to his liking and lose 90% of the points on one question. Things add up and grade goes to F.
Just a bit encouragement. Aim for A, but rmb that you only need a D to pass this class.
I dropped out but I had a better offer and 12 classes left, with so few I'd try to finish strong.
Can you take that course some place else and transfer it in? Otherwise you may need to talk to the teacher directly to find solutions.
Nope, can't do that. High level courses you have to do at same school. Talking to that prof is like talking to a wall, he doesn't understand me, I don't understand him. I am just so discouraged and intimidated by him I don't want to deal or waste money.
And unfortunately he is the only teacher. Had a similar issue and talked to administration and they created a substitute course for me. But my situation was worse, the teacher was an alcoholic.
Username checks out. Just finish what you started
Do not fucking listen to anyone who says otherwise. Stay in school and get your degree. Bar a few exceptions, every single fucker who'll ever look at your resume is going to be a judgemental asshole who will pay more importance to the fact that you don't have a degree than to the fact that you're an amazing engineer. Half of the companies would have your resume filtered out in the system even before it reaches a human. So please, just suck it up and finish it.
It’s only one semester... like you said it’s your last chance. You can do it you are just being lazy It will be much better for your career
3 classes and you are thinking of dropping out ?! You spent 3 and a half intercoursing years dropping all that cash and you want to walk away at the last stop ? You will be very limited in opportunities when it comes to software development. Spend 8 hours a day on that course and get the degree son.
If you finish, the school's career services and alumni group can and will open doors for you. If you drop out, they have zero interest in or responsibility for you.
Future Facebook ceo ? 😂
Suck it up and finish your 3 classes.
