Deport Irish-Americans: Pros/Cons?

Just want to see what people on Blind think about the recent chatter about either creating a new “pathway” process for decedents of Irish Immigrants or deporting them? As I understand it, the arguments are: - these immigrants came here without any formal vetting process. We don’t know who they are and many probably had criminal records from the British military. - it’s unfair to legal immigrants (who have to jump through a lot of hoops) that these immigrants just came unwelcome to the US. - Irish refused to assimilate to US culture and even their descendants today celebrate a sectarian religious holiday. - they want to replace US law with Papal law. - most arrived as poor farmers with no merit or marketable skills. - The only business they create in the US is themed-pubs. These pubs are often called “Irish Pubs” which is clearly discrimination against real Americans. - Irish support terrorism - Irish are often subversives and socialists who still celebrate commies like Michael Collins. - the liberal multi-cultural media forces us to watch their atrocious dancing and charming animated films. - They are well-known to be pick-pockets, layabouts, booze-guzzlers and their women are the surely the majority of Victorian prostitutes. On the “con” side, I’d say this is pretty harsh and we should grant amnesty. Most came here to flee repressive rule or economic problems. They should be given fair treatment. Who knows maybe someday one could become President. What do you think? Vote below:

I'm confused. Are you talking about actual Irish ppl living in the US illegally? Or are you claiming that US citizens of Irish descent should be deported from their own country?

I think people are talking about the descendants of Irish immigrants since most of their ancestors just came into the country with no vetting process. It seems strange if you ask me. I mean it dosn’t even address the descendants of German immigrants.

Your analogy is a stretch. But the Irish did experience extreme, violent opposition as unwelcome immigrants for decades.

Well the “violent” (Free-speech is “violence” now?) opposition would argue that they were trying to destroy the Anglo-Protestant culture people in the revolution died to establish. Also they were drunkards and gang members and caused most of the street violence and pickpocketing in our great cities. Some, I assume, were good people.

Actual violence: "Anti-Catholic, anti-Irish mobs in Philadelphia destroyed houses and torched churches in the deadly Bible Riots of 1844." "In 1854, an anti-Catholic mob in Ellsworth, Maine, dragged Jesuit priest John Bapst—who had circulated a petition denouncing the use of the King James Bible in local schools—into the streets where they stripped him and sheltered his body in hot tar and feathers. That same year, the Know-Nothings in Bath, Maine, smashed the pews of a church recently purchased by Irish Catholics before hoisting an American flag from the belfry and setting the building ablaze. When the bishop of Portland returned to the city a year later to lay a cornerstone for the church’s replacement, another mob chased him away and beat him." "The violence turned deadly in Louisville, Kentucky, in August 1855 when armed Know-Nothing members guarding polling stations on an election day launched street fights against German and Irish Catholics. Immigrant homes were ransacked and torched. Between 20 and 100 people, including a German priest fatally attacked while attempting to visit a dying parishioner, were killed." https://www.history.com/news/when-america-despised-the-irish-the-19th-centurys-refugee-crisis

Is this a supposed to be some kind of metaphor for today’s immigration politics? Because I don’t think anyone mainstream is calling for deporting all the Mexican-Americans except for mr garrison.

Credit Karma EllisDee25 OP Jan 23, 2019

No I think the people making this argument are in favor of Irish immigrants and their descendants who’ve been vetted and done it the right way. It’s unfair for current immigrants who’ve come through the legal way and can show merit or marketable skills and property. They just want to know who these people are and if any are the ancestors of debtors or terrorists or people running from British law. Nations need to be able to control their borders and there’ve been generations of these unaccounted Irish people running around and using our welfare.

Google Zedongke Jan 23, 2019

A better example for this insanity would be Chinese Americans. Around 1/3 are descended from Chinese immigrants with fake documents bc of all the restrictions and racism. Also all OG Americans were terrorists absconding from British laws and taxes so you’ll have to establish some different criteria. Let’s deport them all though. Deport me too I’m Scots-Irish. This country is looney tunes + crack.

Deport socialist-americans. Hang communist-americans. Irish did not ask for government handouts and worked their asses off. Their descendants were born in the US. Ellis Island had vetting process. Also leprechauns are cool.

Some Irish are not communists, bigot! But they did come unwelcome and uninvited. They took our welfare in the form of municipal taxes collected for orphanages (full of Irish babies... no doubt born of prostitution) the creation of city police forces (talk about “free rides” - the police drove them around so much they named a wagon after them!). They created the first US labor groups (violent thugs who used arms and dynamite in their strikes)... so much for them “working their asses off”. There were no formal restrictions on immigrants in Ellis island. You must be an open borders extremist if you think writing a name and town of origin on a clipboard is a secure border.

And many communists aren't Irish. They should hang together anyway, communist to communist.

Would that be the entire white population of the USA who appear to have no sense of culture so cling to some fabricated hollywood fantasy to find a sense of belonging? TL;DR you're not Irish.

Credit Karma EllisDee25 OP Jan 23, 2019

Yes, they refuse to assimilate.
