Design team at Google Sydney

I saw a couple of opportunities open up at Google in Sydney. Does anyone know anything about the design team in Australia and how it would compare to a similar role in Mountain View (in terms of culture, compensation etc)?

Don’t know anything about design, but Google pay in Sydney is significantly lower than most of the usual Google US offices (it might still be good for Sydney though other than the high cost of living). And I’ve also heard in the last year or two that there were equity budget changes and Sydney was put in a lower RSU grant tier than before, but I don’t know any other details.

Yes thisisdog is right. Compensation and RSU refresh are much lower. My base was 45% lower than in US and it definitely is not good for Sydney. Cost of living is high especially since most Googlers want to live either close to office (center) or beaches (very expensive and long commute). The office itself is nice and has a good work/life balance. Most people leave by 6pm and there is a lot of emphasize on well being. There are many expats working there but the visa conditions are not favorable after the recent changes. Benefits are good, comparable to US. For me the pay was just too low to be able to ever buy a property in the Sydney huge housing bubble. The city itself is nice but very hard to get around. You will mostly stay on the suburb tou live in unless on the weekend you want to go to the beach. From the city center beaches were about 1 hour by bus. Depends what you like. I could imagine people who are more settled down and do not want to progress in their career and compensation as quickly would have a good time in Sydney.

What role were you working in, if you don’t mind sharing? I’m looking at interaction designer roles
