Got a message from facebook recruiter about Enterprise Engineer role. Can anyone working as enterprise engineer at facebook can let me know how it is different from a normal software engineer role?
Lol
EE’s mostly work on internal projects and are a tier below SWE compensation and level (i.e. IC5 EE ~= IC4 SWE). Mobility is fairly limited because it’s an org specific position. You would have to re-interview to become SWE, but that is substantially easier to do once you’re already working here. (You can reinterview for any position after 1 year.) The only issue with the position itself is the insecurity some people feel over being a perceived second tier engineer. But the work itself is the standard developer work you’d find anywhere else. The org itself is literally just IT, but happens to do a lot of engineering work (hence the rebranding to “Enterprise Engineering”). The work is not as glamorous as working on big name projects like the main app or Instagram, but it can be fulfilling depending on your interests. Overall I’d say it’s a totally valid career option or at least a good way to get your foot in the door if can’t yet pass a full SWE/PM/TPM, etc interview.
Facebook, would you be willing to refer me? I have an interview with G end of the month and wanted to apply to FB as well. I have the position picked out. Can send you my resume and LinkedIn
How is an SWE title within enterprise org like?
Enterprise engineer is internal facing and probably sucks.
Ya looks like probably not a good fit for me
Why does it suck? Maybe it’s less stressful
