I have heard that Americans only drink cold water. They never drink hot water. Is it true?

To clarify:
Tea does not count. And hot water should be as hot as any hot coffee you get from Starbucks.

By default water in the US is consumed cool or on ice. I was confused when I went to other places and it was warm, I assumed it was because tap water was contaminated and had to be boiled beforehand.

Iโ€™ve also learned that as an American the volume of fluids I consume is abnormal: weโ€™d have 3 cold glasses of water or sparkling water or sometimes even juice with every meal growing up. And for every glass of wine weโ€™d match it 1:1 with a glass of water. In Asia, Iโ€™m inconveniencing everyone if I pour myself a second small glass of abnormally hot water because the pitcher at the table is so small.

Wait, 6-8oz of water a day? That seems way too small! I drink water only when I'm thirsty and it's easily a liter. Easily.

Noticed I started drinking twice as much water (in added volume, not replacing other drinks with it) when I came to the west coast.

This came out of nowhere as an unexplained daily craving.

      Trophy4all,

Yes to harden the pineal gland which essentially is the mindโ€™s third eye. Perhaps why we feel so bright and โ€œaliveโ€ as children, and feel a degree of depersonalization as we get older.

I still drink unfiltered city water for the taste.

Why the fuck would one drink plain hot water? What culture does this come from and is there any science behind it?

My mother likes drinking room temperature water but sheโ€™s also weird.

This. In China, very few people drink cold water. You have to specifically ask for it.

it might be the lack of convenient filters. the cold water I typically get from restaurants is bottled, or hot water manually cooled with an excess of ice cubes

People from shithole countries drink hot water because they are worried it might be contaminated. If it's hot they know it's been boiled.

I always ask for water with no ice. No clue why anyone wants to drink ice water especially when it's cold outside.

I do this. This morning I took a glass of ice water with me in the car. I didn't end up drinking much of it before I got to work. When I came out to my car late this afternoon not only had the original ice in the water not melted but the rest of the water was frozen too... :/
I think the whole ice in the water thing is just habit at some point (like today).

I have never known anyone to drink just pure hot water without anything in it. MAYBE when you are sick, but you add a little bit of honey to it. Iโ€™ve lived in the US my entire life. How common is it in other countries?

I drink hot water every winter night. Seems to help to reduce throat sore. It also makes me more comfortable. I only do that in my home country though. The heating system in the US is so good that I don't need it.

What is the benefit of hot water? What has the biggest carbon footprint? Heating water to boiling point or chilling water (considering that the refrigerator is also keeping other food cold.
