Do recruiters investigate candidates backgrounds themselves?

For example, checking one's social media profile for relevant industry connections or stack overflow posts for example. Is it common to look into things like this not explicitly mentioned in the resume?

Random thought, genuinely curious.

Hiring managers often will look you up on social media when they have a say in your hiring. Some teams collect a creepy amount of social content on interviewees when deciding between 2 or 3 candidates at the end of the interviewing cycle. I don’t know if recruiters look at social media though.

Manager is the real filter. Recruiter is just finding perplex the manager is interested in and then getting you excited to go bough the interview process.

They spend less than 2 mins to go or not over hundreds of profiles.

They technically should not (although they may). If you allege that they checked your profile and removed you out of contention coz of blah blah , then they will be in deep trouble legally.

I doubt they do. They don’t even check what’s available on LinkedIn when they reach out via LinkedIn. I mean it gets to the point when a recruiter was pitching a job at Oracle. Well, I currently work at Oracle and my profile clearly states that. To add insult to the injury, the rate offered was significantly lower than what I am currently making, but of course he was not supposed to know that.

No they mostly believe you, I think. Then they use a company to verify start and end dates etc
