Prop 13; violent and heavily militarized and funded urban police forces; largest prison sysyem (which is also racially segregated and practices racial collective punishment); heavily privitized/charterized school system; public-privite companies like PG&E that take public funds for privite profits with no public accountabiliyy; huge tax incentives to major industries; right-to-work labor laws; etc... California is run by Democrats, but they govern like Republicans. Does California need an alternative to corporate Democrats?
California needs a strong libertarian party that would focus on personal freedoms and end the state sponsorship of failing corporations and unproductive population
Lol
The type of Libertarians who call people working two part time jobs and raising kids “unproductive” while people who check their phone and speculate on investments are the “productive” ones.... will never have mass support.
One party rule isn’t good for the state. The Republicans are in decline and almost third-party status already in the state. Now is the time for a new party to arise and spread to other states.
Wait what's wrong with prop 13? It's the best prop since sliced bread!
Prop 13 is exploiting new homeowners, exploiting the tax system and exploiting the education system. For people who own multiple houses since 1970s, I believe they will definitely support prop13. Good for you
It's not exploiting them. It's a major incentive for new homeowners to lock their prop taxes for life! It's why you want to buy and get creative to make sure the recorded sale price is as low a possible.
What a lotta you guys don't realize is how many people you know (homeowners) are pro Prop 13, even though they agree it's stupid.
You’re deeply confused. Keep an open mind and keep learning. Good luck
Are u crazy? California needs a republican opposition that can reduce regulation, rein in out of control public unions, increase housing supply and reduce crazy taxes. And I say that as someone who tends to support Democrats at the federal level.
All the local Dem politicians around here are YIMBY (“increase housing supply”). State bureaucrats are aggressive with teachers and transit unions. California originated the “low tax” mantra in the 70s and has all of these “triggers” like prop 13 to keep spending low or mandate austerity cuts under certain conditions (this allows the politicians to claim “our hands are tied” when reform movements pop up from time to time). Housing plans and “business incentives” generally create loopholes for industry or developers to sidestep regulations. California is run like a Republican state except with some liberal culture war positions.
That, and the 13% income tax
