What are your thoughts? I feel it's a gross envasion of privacy. Can you do the job and fit the culture of the company? Thats all that matters in the end.
I would not join a company that drug tested its employees. I would fail every drug test anyway.
I havent been drug tested in 7+ years
lol what kind of software company does drug testing?
Exactly. Cause how many developers don’t do drugs lmfao
Depends. Previous job had a colleague who was an obvious user of not so harmless substances. It was sort of overlooked , then he sold company laptop and his badge for a fix. Guess whose office was robbed that night.
I could understand drug testing in certain sectors. In general though there is absolutely no reason any tech company should be drug testing.
It makes sense in fields where operating equipment could cause injury. If you're high and create a bad pull request, your change will simply be rejected. So I can't see why it's necessary in our industry, but in my experience, most places do not drug test, not that it would matter to me anyways.
Depending on your industry. In us, as required by law, you cannot handle clients financial data(not even reading it) if you are under the influence. The auditor was not happy when my dev lead had a bottle of beer on his desk on a Friday afternoon.
We drug test when you are hired, a major promotion or if you get hurt on the job. In 15 plus years been drug tested three times.
I've never had a job that didn't drug test. Maybe east coast vs. west coast? Everyone drug tests here. Clarification: test on hire
What does your company do?
International IT firm/contractor, a lot of government contracting. The new job I start in s couple weeks is a healthcare Provider(hospital). But my brother works in sales and he has always had to have one at a new job. His wife just got a new job as event coordinator and they required one. I was never drug tested when I worked as a bartender to help pay for college or doing retail but that's the only job I've ever had that didn't. I even had to have one to work retail for a large clothing chain in high school.
Lol, choose what is important to you, that employer or your daily fix.
Or understand that forcing that decision is unnecessary.
