Yes. There is a huge divide.
I use to be etw before I was converted and it felt as if I were a second class citizen. I recall when I first applied I was unaware that I was going to be etw. I still would have went through with it because it opens doors. Although, I know people who struggle to get converted even though they are doing more important roles than others who are ftw. I think it’s pathetic that they aren’t invited to all events or sample sales. If you want employees to stay or be happy you need to treat them right and most etws would probably say this isn’t happening for them. We waste so much time, effort, and money having to retrain people when contracts end.
Agreed
Can't say for others but NDe has some great teams. ETWs get paid (way more than other Portland/Oregon companies) and being treated the same way as everyone else besides sample sales and selected events. Nike is not a tech company so TC or GTFO doesn't work here. (Many ETWs makes more than directors.) Try to do good work and learn, make friends and connect with people. Good luck my friend.
That's not true. Benefits, bonus and base salary all considered. Even base salary honestly. I've seen several people get offers for FT now. They pay contract companies more money in the end probably but what the employee gets is not more.
Also I've worked for other companies in Portland. The pay is standard nothing more
I converted last year and wish I hadn't. Was making $90 an hour as a contractor and got lowballed on my FTE offer. I make less and have more responsibility now. Not much difference in the culture imo. Black badge gets better discounts but I order stuff on my account for etws so it really doesn't matter.
Curious YOE and how much you previously make. This is insane salary to me as Directors don't even make this much.
$90/hour is the going rate for a senior ux designer contractor at Nike Technology currently. It's what is budgeted for each position. I have more experience than most but that is what people can make as a senior regardless of experience. I only make $112 now a year with $10k bonuses in my first year (signing & eoy) now that I converted.
I often see some contractors from firms like cts.. forming a group within themselves and descriminate qnd give friction to other contractors working in the same team. Again it's not possible to do this on all the teams but they have so much presence in few departments. Unless u are in one of those teams, I think etw's will be treated the same way like fte's except some perks n benefits.
What does ETW stand for?
They are contractors/temps
ETW stands for External Temporary Worker
