Thanks to a very helpful individual on Blind, I found that to transition from Product Management in a bank into Tech, the more appropriate parallel in job experience is Program Management. Would anyone in Program Management be willing to chat, review my resume, and possibly refer me to Program Management roles if I am qualified? Any help or information is genuinely valued and appreciated.
How technical are you ? Most Program management (TPM) jobs in FAANG would have a system design or coding interview.
I’m targeting non-technical program management, but I practice Python in my own time so I can complete my team’s data analysis more efficiently. From an LC perspective I’d be strictly beginner level in Python, and not much else.
At Google, there are TPgMs (or TPM, they are the same thing) and PgMs. PgMs, even those in Tech teams, don't have system design or coding interviews. In fact most of the PgMs I know do not know any coding. TPMs do have one of two interviews similar to a SWE.
Thank you for the info! I am trying to find PgM roles in NYC, but they seem few and far between. Are you in PgM?
I am/was a TPM. Transitioning back into Eng though
Why?
How was it working as a TPM For fang ?
What does a program manager do, really?
