I have an idea of which one I will likely choose but, given my offer circumstances, wondering which one others would pick and if I'm missing any pros/cons or things to think about.

Facebook E4
TC: 270k
Pros: Office, Benefits and perks, Get to choose team, getting tangible RSU money, FAANG on resume
Cons: Can end up with crappy team options, More likely to end up with bad WLB

Stripe L2
TC: 285k
Pros: Super motivated with what team will be working on, More room for impact, Remote and WFH friendly
Cons: Risk involved since RSUs not guaranteed until IPO, There's oncall

I know this is like the 500th time this type of question has been asked and since blind community really helped me prep for my interviews I'm happy to answer any questions about both, really enjoyed both interview processes.

Yoe: 4
Current TC: 170k at our stocks garbage price 😢

  • Stripe sounds like it has a great engineering culture, Facebook... not so much

      Eng talent != eng culture

Please Define eng culture. Arguing over variable names? Design ? Wasting time on meaningless argument, bloated tests with documentation (which is never up-to-date) and ship after it's "perfected" only to realize no one uses it (no impact) and 6 months of work is wasted?

I have worked at companies that in traditional sense is considered strong "eng culture" (unit tests, design doc etc.) but I prefer FB result/impact driven culture over others.

And it was about this time I realised the offer letter was about 8 stories tall and was a crustacean from the protozoic era!

My bet is when you’re the size of FB you won’t be growing as fast as FB is :)

Reading your post I have a feeling you already decided subconsciously and just looking for posts to confirm. Either I am reading too much between the lines or you picked Stripe :)

    Stripe for sure.

Obviously I'm a bit biased, but I mainly recommend it because you're excited about the team, and that's almost all that really matters. The motivation will usually lead to great work, more growth, more money, etc. Go w that.

That said, I'd prefer Stripe for potentially more impact.

Sounds like you might be young. If that's the case, you can risk some paper money

Not that I don’t want OP to come to stripe, but IMO when you are young it’s time to accrue cash. It’s much easier to chase paper money later when you have cash on hand. What do you have to show for if you are in your 30s but the paper money is still paper?

IMO as long as the cash is enough to live comfortably on, the more important factor is how you’ll grow. The cash you earn now will be a fraction of what you earn in a few years if you grow the right way.

It depends on your outlook I think. If you are generally pessimistic or cautious about the future (like me) and don’t think future earnings may be there (for reasons like software eng salary dipping, economic instability, personal doubts), investing in the now isn’t a bad risk management strategy. Everybody has their own risk tolerances given their circumstance.

That's fair. I'm older and my advice was valid (in retrospect) when I was younger, but the future won't necessarily be like the past.

nCuSop for most people, you have more responsibility when in 30-40, when you start to take care of aging parents and new born children. Chasing paper money is riskier in this setup, especially if your spouse does not make a lot.

Stripe is overvalued right now imo. That being said, I’d still go there for the impact. I’d try to get more rsus to make up for the risk though.

Interesting that this poll is one sided whereas the other one stripe vs goog/fb is pretty much even.

Stripe isn’t worth $35B. Preferred equity isn’t the same thing as common equity. Your offer from FB is simply more money.
