My wife is thinking about leaving her cushy government job to go to Facebook. She has about 10 years of experience, and she's worth way more than her current salary. She has been a consistent top performer and is considered a rockstar at work. How do I convince her to leave the public sector for a more well paying job? She says that no amount of money is worth leaving, when in reality, folks would be banging on her door to get them on board if she put herself out there more. Thoughts?
Ask her to try the interview then make choice. Any join or not join discuss before she passing the interview is meaningless.
Leave her alone. Money can’t bring happiness after certain point. Also you need to provide more info if you have kids ? Planning to have ? How much she makes now ?
With 10 years experience, she could be in her early to mid thirties so safe to assume kids are just around the corner (if she can and they want) if they haven't already.
Yes, she'll make more money. If she's unhappy, you'll be the person who'll be blamed every single day.
She will also have less time to spend with you and the kids if any. No amount of money is going to replace that.
Nah brah
Forbid her to do it, maybe they'll make her one to do it.
Don’t do it. Support what wife wants to do, and get paid back in spades and BJs.
Never hurts to interview. If she finds a team she loves then great, if not at least now you know.
It depends on multiple things. What kind of a person she is. What's intrinsic motivation for her. If she is driven by money or stability. What about the future? Do you see the benefits of having a decent pension post retirement and weigh that against any confirmed investment you can make with the extra money she can earn. What stage in your life are you both - kids, etc, 30s, 40s. Aim should be for prolonged and sustained happiness which has a different definition for each person. If you agree upon a combined definition of happiness which both of you agree to which will show the path forward. Instant gratification or possibly delayed gratification (can be continued too)
First, you need to pass the interview.
