Trying to determine if this situation is worth pursuing. I have 1 YOE and trying to crack FAANG. I was contacted by TEKsystems for a 6 month contract to hire Solutions Engineer at Facebook. Comp is 130k all cash. I have 2 days to decide on the offer. Ideally, I’d like to use this as a stepping stone for FAANG SWE. (Or at least full time solutions engineer at Facebook). Current TC: 100k
How frequent is CTH at FB ? Any visa situation ?
I heard they don't usually convert contract to FT in FB or G. But u can apply to Google with that experience later
Makes sense. The recruiter also mentioned there is possibility for early FTE conversion/contract extension based on performance
Contract work is a second class job. If you take it, you'll be signaling to everyone reading your resume in the future that you couldn't get a full time position. Don't do it.
Can’t I just say on my resume “Solutions Engineer - Facebook”? I don’t believe I have to disclose that the job was through a contracting agency.
Well you can, but if people check they'll find out. Why do you want to take this kind of job though? You'll feel like second class, you'll get uninteresting work, you won't learn much, they'll fire your ass before you hit 2 years mark, etc. It's a shitty position to be.
I understand. Thanks for your advice. The only reason why I’m considering this opportunity is because I feel hardstuck in my position. I failed G and F onsite one year ago and can’t pass resume screen with other companies. Haven’t interviewed since college. Do you have any advice for someone in my position? I’ve been going hard on leetcode for the past year with over 350 problems solved.
Depends on your risk tolerance. Contract roles are always tough and likely a bad idea to leave a FTE role for contract. However, you could add Facebook to your resume. Granted you have to say you contracted at Facebook through TekSystems as you're technically a Teksystems employee, not a Facebook employee but you can still legitimately add Facebook to your resume. You'll likely have that awful "Contractor" flag added to your fb email signature/name though.
Keep trying and look beyond F and G. Use your LinkedIn network. Attend networking events
Csn you go back to AT&T a year from now? If so, why not make the move and get the experience.
So no interviews?
Nope
