Failed Google, passed Amazon

I interviewed at Amazon and Google, and unfortunately failed Google. Im feeling depressed as Google was my dream company and what i really wanted to join. I accepted Amazon meanwhile with a TC of 240k as sde 2. Did i make the right decision considering all the horror stories about Amazon? Should have i rejected Amazon and reinterviewed at Google after 6 months? Or is Getting into Amazon still consider an accomplishment and something darn good enough to have on ur resume. My current employer is non faang and my tc was 150k. Since i have joined Amazon i would want to stay put for atleast 2 years or maybe 4, but im having regrets.

You have a job. Good for you. Be grateful. There's still a lot to be learned in your new position and if you experience "horror"- switch teams. Reapply to Google later if you still want it. Nothing's stopping you

You'll be fine dude. Do your best at Amazon for a couple years. Then reapply to wherever you want to go.

Your getting a pay raise, and a very recognizable employer. You will be fine at Amazon for a while. If you still want Google...work, learn, retry.

Prestige, high bar if getting in, engineers work environment, brand name, pay etc

New grad here. Can confirm brand name is a real thing. I had several classmates with the same GPA and projects get calls to interview because they interned at Google, while I was struggling to even get someone to look at my resume without referrals. I'm not sure how much it matters when you've more yoe under your belt, but at my level Google still reigns supreme.

Interview is always a hit or a miss... a lot of it depends on luck. If you hadn’t accepted Amazon, your 2nd attempt Google could’ve gone south just as much as it could’ve worked out irrespective of your preparation. Whether you made the right decision accepting Amazon largely depends on how satisfied you were at your last company.

Thanks a lot for the well written response. Amazon was my backup if i didnt get into Google, but definitely i would have chosen Amazon over my non faang employer. Im just upset that i didnt get into the “MIT” of CS companies, but got into “urbana champaign” for a CS degree

That door is always open, you can try anytime 😊

Really sorry you didn't pass the bar - it's a stupid black box. A couple of years in the horror (did my tour there, never again) and you'll be in good shape to reapply.

U worked at amazon before google? How many years

Microsoft Dr. Bayes Dec 12, 2018

Like many others on Blind, you are just fascinated by a company’s name. Amazon and Google are both fine companies. All that really matters is the team and what you get to work on. Congratulations on your offer from Amazon - 240k for an sde 2 is an excellent offer and a huge jump from your current TC. You can always try Google in the future

Thanks bro. Initially it was 220k but I negotiated, a little in stocks and bonus

You didn't pass Google. Do you know that company has a lot of assholes and egoistic people? They work on a lot of projects that get thrown away. Really, you can learn incredibly well in Amazon. There are tons of smart people here. You might have gotten better perks at Google but that's pretty much it. If you're happy at Amazon just keep going at it. Until you're ready for a change

The bigger question is. What about Facebook?

Amazon az2 OP Dec 12, 2018

I dont like facebook as a product. So wouldnt bother
