After SpaceX’s recent layoffs, Tesla announcesd they are reducing workforce by 7%. I have seen many companies having layoffs recently. What is the reason? Last year everyone hired like crazy(30% fir TSLA) and now we see this reduction of workforce. Is this a normal trend or this happens during this time of the year? I always feel like cutting the workforce is the worst way to save money. It almost seems like reducing executive pay, standing on your supply chain for better pricing, or other cost-cutting measures are better options. In Tesla’s case, stop paying Bay Area salaries for factory workers would be a start. Build those cars in the middle of South Dakota and you’ll have an immediate 50% reduction in labor costs!
Or how about stop building cars in a tent? 😂
That kinda requires you to lay off your factory workers lol
They trim the fat. It doesn’t work as it should but often there isn’t a better way to do things unless you are like Netflix and constantly dropping even average people.
Thank god I signed another offer last month.
That is so lucky!
Nah I started studying after the last around of lay-off in q3. It’s a shit show at work. They laid off a lot of good people who had no performance issues last time. Pretty sure it’s based on who your manager likes.
Must doesn't like the mundane side of running a business. He wasn't prepared for so many Model 3 orders. He may have hired to many to speed things up and now cutting back.
May be. But from what I know there have been layoffs in 4-6 companies already this year. Everyone hired like crazy last year and what if everyone starts trimming down people?
Maybe you weren't working before 2008. This is normal and happens periodically. It's necessary to clean up excesses.
What happens when you lean out through layoffs an already lean company? You either miss targets or create poor quality. Cost, schedule, quality: you can tightly control two at the other's expense. Last time we cut people and tried to hold schedule, quality control was lacking and a rocket exploded with a capsule on top. Then Elon wanted the launch pad to go faster with out hiring enough people, then a rocket blew up again.
Who is affected?
