Fired for being pregnant?

I work at a startup where this just happened two weeks ago. Does anyone else have experience with this? This is highly concerning / infuriating. https://apple.news/Anbc5iCIjRI-lcbI0vNb4CA

I know someone that was contractor at Microsoft and got pregnant (not expected) when she started working. She had to tell her manager, a pm, and was told that she couldn’t continue working if she was pregnant. She wasn’t aware this was discrimination at the moment and just left.

Companies like this must be sued to their ass. That’s why I don’t shop at Walmart :D

This fucking outrageous. There may have been some unethical shit that was uncovered about my company last week, but they would never do something so callous as this. What startup do you work for? Out them. They deserve it.

This breaks my heart, but doesn’t surprise me, sadly.

Can you share more about what happened exactly at your startup? This is ridiculous. I’m very unhappy at my current position so I’ve been looking for a new job while at the same time trying to get pregnant. This is disheartening

What’s the startup?

Amazon MrBob Feb 1, 2018

This shouldn’t be discrimination.

Pinterest wRxB02 Feb 1, 2018

Uh??? How is this NOT discrimination?

Amazon MrBob Feb 1, 2018

I didn’t say it wasn’t, I said it shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t be because having children is not a right, it (should be) a choice. If I hire someone to do a job and they can no longer do it (especially because of something they chose to do), I should have the right to find someone who can actually do the job. I should try and find that person more suitable work, but if that doesn’t exist, then I should be able to let them go.

If they can’t work, let someone else that can have a job. I don’t want to carry the load

Microsoft Dddot Feb 27, 2018

Then you mother shouldn’t have carried the load (you), either. I mean, to be fair, no?

I know for someone put on PIP after announcing being pregnant. (Not at my current company).
