Box mostly does acquihires. So probably they paid very little. Great outcome for both plus bragging rights for Butter founders.

I interviewed with them last year and they only had like 6 engineers. Are acquihires a thing for companies that small?

They definitely are. When a company has a slow talent pipeline, it’s good way to fill headcount for relatively low cost.
