Uber/Lyft, Air BnB and Turo are the temporary income streams that come to mind for me. Any other income streams that people have utilized after quitting their jobs?
You did not what
If you’re a SME in your area the right short term contracts or freelancing can be good (if that kind of work fits you). It can get rather lucrative depending on your level of experience and how in demand you are. However personally I usually like to take a breather and do some nonprofit work. Things like Leading a meetup/class, guest speaking at a college, tutor cs students (for free), or volunteer as an instructor or mentor at nonprofit coding programs while I brush up for interviewing.
I did consulting for YC startups in between to experiment on my own startup ideas
I never did, always in the rat race. Tried a couple of times with marginal earnings. Trying to get my act together and do consulting in 2018.
I've been laid of twice. Managed to survive the 2 to 4 months between jobs without touching my savings with severance packages and unemployment benefits.
How'd you do it
Typically won’t quite until I have a full on offer package coupled with a start date to ensure I don’t get screwed.
If you live below your means, this should be a non-issue. That said, I've always had something lined up before quitting.
