A little background on negotiations: company A gave offer, I asked for more TC and a deadline extension as I wanted to wrap up hiring process for conpany B. A week later, Company A tells me they increased my level but would not give me details, and says want to wait for my company B process. Company B drags on, then A gives a crappy final offer and asks I accept by end of week. It was Thanksgiving week and I was on vacation, so basically no chance for me to ask for more. Given that I will be giving up my current year end bonus, is it still possible to ask for a signon? Company A’s recruiter is really being an ass with her negotiation tactics, but the hiring manager has been professional, so maybe I can try that? Thoughts??
Red flags
If you wanted sign on, you should have asked that at the same time you asked for two other things i.e. more salary and time to accept. Nobody likes when you keep making new demands. Alternatively, you can be firm that unless you get certain salary, you won't join.
I did try asking for specifics by setting up a call but the recruiter was not willing. She pushed off such a call by saying they were willing to wait for my other interviews to finish before discussing specific numbers. This to me is very unprofessional and asshole bargaining from the recruiter. Especially knowing Im traveling and thanksgiving
You weren’t up front with your requests. I think you’ve been the asshole here.
You can ask them you want to start in Jan
Ask for a sign on at least equal to year end bonus; no point giving that up. You should have ideally specified that up front. Now it will seem like you are going back and forth with multiple requests which recruiters find annoying but it what it is. You do you always!
I did ask for that after they gave me revised offer, but recruiter says thats their final offer. So is there still chance I get that from the hiring manager? Not sure how much they were involved in the negotiations. I know it will be hard as I signed the offer. But signing it wad really no choicenon my part
I am not sure about whether the hiring manager will give since every company is different. If the TC they are offering is much better than what Amex gives you now, it may not be a bad idea to suck it up, take the offer and interview for a new position soon after. Hard to give an opinion without knowing difference in TC, what area will you move to vs. where you are now etc.
