Planning to give my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. I am not in any core business unit that is in direct competition with VMware. Will MS walk me out on the spot?
No, very likely you won’t be walked out. Do you mind sharing offer details?
Be prepared for it in any case. Clean laptop, take your stuff home the day before you tell them. Worst case you get a paid two week vacation out of it
If I get walked out they are still on the hook for the 2 weeks?
Not legally, but I've never actually heard of a reputable company that didn't pay out for the next 2 weeks. People would stop giving notice.
What role are you joining at VMWare? Also do you mind sharing the TC split?
Also curious
why? Is ms and VMware relationship super intense?
HyperV vs Exsi
I wouldn't think so. VMware actually partners with azure, as they do with aws and Gcp. The only thing that border lines competition is on the hypervisor side
I did that couple of years ago and was walked off that day. They paid for the notice period.
Oh really? Going from MS to VMware?
Yes. Got greeted by HR and my VP and told to give my badge and take my personal stuff.
Leaving E*TRADE, my promotion was canceled. If I had just waited past the weekend, my promotion and retroactive salary bump would have been implemented in the hr system. The retroactive salary bump was due to my cohort's delayed promotion. Missed out on a few thousand dollars. In my jobs after that, I became really careful in giving notices.
OP, please share role, level, base pay, bonus, stocks details?
Why would you even tell where you are going?
