Got an offer and am at team matching phase, which one is better for a university grad? I really like seattle better than California and was wondering if I wouldn’t miss much if I didn’t pick HQ
I chose mtv, because seattle office doesn't have many good projects and is full of Amazon and Microsoft people so culture is bad
MTV has more amenities and is more happening. Food options are way better there. Spend a few years there and once you're done you can always transfer to SEA
What about teams and projects in Seattle vs mtv
Projects in Seattle include GCP, some Maps folks, etc. vs MTV that houses Search, Assistant, Pixel, etc. which arguably are more consumer facing products. An internal survey highlighted that a lot of eng folks in GCP aren't too happy about process, leadership, and tooling more so than other parts of Google. FWIW, it still depends on the team so be sure to ask the hiring manager during the fit calls
Pros of Seattle (assuming you don’t mean Kirkland) is that it’s in the city and rent is cheaper. Pro of Mountain View is that the weather is nice year round and you’re closer to the action at HQ. If you are looking at Kirkland and not actually Seattle then Mountain View seems like the clear choice
Kirkland of course
You might make more in Seattle since there's no state tax
If single do mountain view. SF dating life better.
Mountain view != SF
Not better by much
