Google and PTO policy

Considering accepting an offer with Google. PTO policy for employees is 15 days / year for the first 3 years. Maybe I’m just spoiled, but this seems low for a tech company. Snap has unlimited PTO- and yes- I am able to utilize it without negative effects. Any Googlers want to share their thoughts on this? Do you miss not having more PTO? Can employees “get away” with taking more time off?

Salesforce git-wreckd Jan 17, 2018

That does seem low, especially for senior ppl

Microsoft yMcg47 Jan 17, 2018

I don’t like unlimited pto. With real pto you can get a payout if you quit with a balance

T-Mobile s84kjw Jan 17, 2018

Not low, standard at my last two companies for first 3 years.

+1 AT&T (publicly available info if you dig) 2 weeks vacay 1 week personal days 1 week optional holidays (no carryover) 1 week sick time (no carryover)

T-Mobile 5hj30s Jan 18, 2018

T-Mobile is 3 weeks of PTO, 11 holidays with 1 of them being floating to use whenever.

Well actually there is unlimited PTO if your manager is willing to give you that. My previous manager did not have issue with me going on a vacation for more than a month as long as I am able to complete rest of the stuff.

How common is this? What about work from home?

Snapchat jOnw48 Jan 17, 2018

Google is very flexible on working remotely, you can take advantage of that

Google blindusern Jan 18, 2018

Plenty of flexibility. Wouldn’t worry about it
