Considering same TC, what is a better choice for student fresh out of school? Comments on why would be great too, even if just “gut feeling”. Looking to optimize quality learning (not necessarily speed) and project interest (not necessarily impact) Note: specific team is not know for either - matched with Search product area at Google, will have boot camp at FB
Team matters more than the company. What do you want to learn? You may be able to get more out of a good team at IBM vs a shit team at Google depending on your interests.
Pick the team you like
Do not know exact teams unfortunately - got matched with Search product area so do not know exact team at G, boot camp at FB
Ah forgot about the boot camp. Either company will be fine and there are tons of people switching from one company to the other. You will be able to switch if you don't like it.
just had same choice. chose google. like others say, choose better team.
Were you matched with specific team? I only got a product area, Search
Friend works in Search and loves it. Had to make the same choice as you and went with FB.
I just chose Google over FB. Both are great so I chose what I was unconsciously leaning towards to
fb lets you match before accepting if you insist. but boot camp sees fun so it’s a trade off
I worked at Fb.. google definitely
As someone who’s been at Google for 7+ years and now is at fb, I’d recommend fb to start if you’re interested in fast career growth. Goog, especially search, is extremely ossified, to the point that nothing seems to move for months. That said, goog might be better for learning engineering practices.
By fast career growth, do you mean just promo or learning as well? As an intern, I felt a lot of people were moving fast just to move fast, not as much consideration for learning
Promo. To optimize for eng learning, I’d prioritize Google. That said, search is not an org I’d recommend to anyone interested in learning. You’d be stuck doing meaningless grunt work in an org where movement is hampered by endless bureaucracy.
FB eng is a joke, sadly :(
But the real question is, do you actually have offers from either of them?
Yes both, intern at FB over the summer - in a tough position now, wouldn’t be asking otherwise
