I interviewed with Microsoft thrice in the past one year and was given offer twice. They sent me a congratulations email saying that they are moving forward with the offer and asked me expected salary. Over the next few days they called me and cancelled the offer saying that the position was filled by an internal candidate. I interviewed again this month, got a verbal offer and they asked me salary expectations. Next thing I know they can’t find me a team. I am still waiting on hearing back from them. The only time I wasn’t given offer I was told I had positive reviews but the team was picky. Can someone explain this shit show? Why would they extend an offer if they don’t know how to commit to it! PS. I am a Data Engineer applying for SDE-1 role, have a Master’s degree in Computer Science. PPS. I never got chance to tell them my salary expectation, they just asked me to think about it and be ready. But they never asked.
Same thing happened to me in Adobe. Interview feedback is positive...waited for 1 week... rec got closed. Edit: it didn't go to compensation discussion either.
it happens to me a lot as a manager. they freeze my openings while we are recruiting. large companies are very good at wasting everyone’s time
You get leveled based on your demonstrated skills during your interview and advertised to hiring managers at that level. Then they find out there's no way to afford you when the hiring manager tries to move ahead. I'd try to identify areas to improve in your interviews, or adjust your expected comp.
How was the interview?
The interviews went well. If they didn’t think I performed well would they still extend an offer?
could it be your expectations were too high to match?
I suspect the same
They just told me to think about the salary figure, but the discussions/negotiations never happened
