I have 9 yrs work experience, 6 of them in India. Masters from USA. Was offered 145k base and 12% bonus. Is it fair? They have just about matched my Cisco salary, and refuse to change the comp. Confused what to do. No competing offer.
Depends on how bad you want to leave your current job and company. If you're OK with staying then I would tell them "I'm not yet seeing a compelling reason to leave my current position. My skills and experience are worth more than what you are currently offering and while the work your teams are doing is very interesting, I also have to maintain an upward trajectory in compensation. I will sign the next offer you send me that contains the following changes <list your desired salary and bonus>.
Yes, I am tempted to do so. But, after the LR that happened in October, a few of my colleagues got affected. Ever since that experience, I have been on edge wondering if I am next.
Well, in my opinion, I would take a reduction in pay only if I was already in that situation, which you aren't yet. It probably wouldn't be that hard to find a place that would take you for reduced pay when you do find yourself there. I would use your position of strength now while you still have it.
what's the upside here, if any? Is the scope of work more interesting--what's the $ value you would put on that
Yes. The scope of work seems interesting
btw, in your counteroffer, add a little padding to the requested salary so that if they come back with a lower negotiated figure thay its still in your range of acceptance
No use switching , look somewhere else.
Why switch if they're not going to pay you more?
