I applied for an iOS Engineer position in a UK company, and today I got a final answer to my application. I've been rejected because of one main issue, the use of Github Gardener and the fact that I did not talk about it during the phone interview. To be frank I totally forgot about it until today .. I understand that this could be a potential trust issue between my lead and I, but do you think I can fix this ? If so, how ? TC: 42k
Not sure why UK jobs pay peanuts. I feel like ya'll are paid less than similar jobs in India even by a direct currency conversion rate. No pun intended but I could see Europeans going to India for jobs at this rate and this time you'll have to compete for the jobs. Crazy thought ... I know
Because welfare states cost money. That money has to come from somewhere
That's my current TC, in Paris, but yeah still peanuts I guess.
Lesson learned. Do your *honest* best in the future. And certainly let them know next time because that shows integrity.
What is github Gardener?
It’s a program that cheaters use to make their GitHub “appear” active, when really it’s just automated commits.
Github Gardener works like this : You create a repo on Github and a the tool automatically adds commit to this repo in order to let you have a green Github contribution history. I once saw this on ProductHunt, and tried it for fun (I was still a student at that time)
Take the rejection and move on. Gardner is cheating, get out of the habit of using it. Now
This. There's nothing you can do to reverse a rejection. But there's lots of fish in the sea. It's a seller's market.
