Do you think h1b is modern slavery? My experience in watching h1b ppl: I heard the h1b horror stories of getting treated like garbage. Lower wages, getting pushed back on paperwork, having to leave the country to reapply for visa, etc Techlead: Are Facebook employees depressed? (H1B slavery visa & abuse) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CIXZljyQAo
Lmaooo to call it slavery is being so entitled
If you work for sweatshop like TATA yes. I thought FAANG treated their h1b decently? The TC part is definitely there.
Nobody is forcing you to work in the US. If you want to work here, you have to go through H1B. If you don't like that process, work in your home country. Otherwise just make a decision and own it like an adult.
Well said. H1Bs come here for the American dream. Of course there’s some sacrifices but every immigrant I know is always grateful to be here and have that opportunity to live that dream. However H1Bs are also severely abused by tech firms, usually outsourcing firms like infosys. I’m not discriminating, the data is publicly available. And there are so many stories of suppressed pay from these companies. FWIW, Trump is doing the right thing on this topic.
If you are born in the US, you have done absolutely nothing to deserve it. Make a decision and live with it - it's a children's argument, considering H1B was designed to be a challenge.
Did they forcibly takes you from India/China? Do you get physically whipped when you don’t perform well? When you fail, you get to go back home instead of getting taken outside and shot/hanged.
For OP to use the term "slavery" in reference to H1B demonstrates total ignorance of America's history, not to mention disrespect towards those in history who endured the institution of slavery. You don't use that term loosely. OP, maybe America is not the right country for you if you really feel like your experience compares to that of a slave.
@Chase 1. I was born here 2. I asked because of the youtube video 3. It's a question not a statement. Example - poll 4. Interesting that 50%+ said 'yes'
Makes 200k+ a year. “Im a slave!”
200k and work 100hrs a week still worth it?
You don’t work 100 hours a week
It is not slavery. They can work in their country, they can move to many other countries, but they decide to go to the US on H1B to make more money. They can change employer easy with their background. But they decide to stay to make more money.
Slavery?! Hey let’s just rewrite what words mean. While you have great points take it a different direction. Like not Slavery
Quavo
Also don’t forget how those “slaves” stole H1B flooding the queue or even buying the application. H1B is more a ticket to better life than slavery.
Last I checked slaves don't get paid and have health insurance
Not sure if adding 'modern' prefix changes anything though
Would you let a slave die or take the slave to a doctor for future use?
