Hi, I am a grad student graduating this May. I currently have an offer from a company which I don't want to join (I am still looking for better opportunities), this Company can apply for H1B this time but since I am not sure if I will be joining I do not want to. If I get some offer by mid March is it possible to apply for H1B this time?
Why not go for it?
You can’t apply for H-1B this year unless you have your degree in hand before April 1st. Unless your university can provide a letter stating you have completed your requirements/your degree, they won’t file it. Source: was told this a week ago by the immigration team of the company I will be working for when they realized I would only graduate in May.
Accept the offer. Let them file H-1B. If it gets picked up, join them. You can always change jobs later. One more H-1b chance is more precious
You need atleast 3 pay stubs before they file you H1 application in April. So it's good time to join ASAP
Not true. Pay stubs are not required for filing an H1 application. H1b is for prospective employment. It just makes the case stronger if you have been working for the same company in some other status. To prove that, you provide pay stubs
If you don't get another offer this week or something, I would recommend taking the one you already have. As others have mentioned, you can always change jobs later to a 'better' company if you want to. But you will sacrifice this attempt at the H1B lottery if you don't take this.
Thanks everyone. I will accept the offer if I don't get anything by next week and try for h1 this time.
If you are international, many of the options are unfortunately closed for you man
This isn't true at all. Source: am 'international' and have 'international' siblings getting into the job market here just fine.
Bruh. Take it easy. Im international too. Just saying this for the expected job offers in the current market, man. I just adviced him to take the safest option right now. He may score a better offer. But thats a risk he would be taking.
Most companies have 15th March as a deadline for accepting the offer if you want them to file for H1B this year. This is not a rule though.
