Is it easy or hard to get a H1B Visa these days? Is it purely a lottery based system? Meaning anyone of the thousands of applicants can get the Visa?

Do you believe everything you see on gossip channels? Big consulting firms are much better in following visa rules than many small US based companies.

Base rate neglect on part of Expedia. Your anecdotal data does not supercede the larger statistical data

Ok letโ€™s say there are 3 chances for stem degree. Each year masters pool + general pool. Total 6 lottery attempts. If a person has luck worse than 1/6 then he has only his bad karma to blame ;)

Lol. 3 chances that is assuming you truly get a job right away at a company that is willing to sponsor your visa. You just got lucky and your team even more luckier. Masters h1b is relatively easier compared to applying from outside USA. But it's still harder and filled with intricacies that you might not know. Secondly masters based h1b is also prone to financial and time based risk which you don't necessarily have if your company is applying while you are outside. Either way both of these paths have challenges.

I would say to op to try to get masters if he can or else try couple of times without masters. After that no point brooding over it. Other countries have better opportunities. You don't want to spend time thinking too much about all these legal stuff. Instead you should be working hard on your real job that is software engineering or whatever
