Had a high amount of shadow interviewers @ Uber 5 rounder onsite. 3 out of the 5 rounds had a shadower that seemed more senior and a "newer" interviewer did the interview instead. Felt like I was a test subject for their hiring process. However, I did meet with the hiring manager, the only one without a shadower. This normal at Uber? Haven't seen this many interview practice rounds at any company.
Same with phone screen. Had a "shadow" interviewer logged into my coderpad session even though nothing was mentioned about another person on the call. Solved the question, interviewers were happy. But never heard back. Turns out my contact recruiter is not even at Uber anymore. Felt I was just a test subject. Lol.
Maybe the experienced interviewer were reverse shadowing the new interviewers.
It means a bunch of new people are being trained to give interviews. It is a red flag, but you should already be aware of what you’re getting yourself in to over at Uber.
Why is it a red flag?
High turnover... I heard the turnover is widespread throughout the company right now
You could have also taken a shadow if this was told before.
We are mostly only hiring senior engs this days in the US, they might be new to uber
Paired interviews have become the norm here at OT. Though, it's not necessarily for training of new interviewers. Sometimes it's manager + engineer or two seniors. It lets more people get to see the candidate without wasting more of the candidates time and also let's employees get continuous updated interview feedback
TC?
Bring a younger friend who has never had a professional job before to sit next to you at the interview as a "shadow interviewee". Priceless experience for that person!
Many xUbers got fired so need more interviewers 😂
