I've been dealing with a bully since I started and quite honestly my job didn't provide a lot of training so every time I have a question it's a snarky remark or an eye roll. She slams things on my desk, acts like something's on fire if there's something minimal that can easily be fixed and I feel like she is the type of personality who wants everyone to know she irreplaceable. She's driven everyone out of that office. What dip I do? I've gone to management and the response is "egh that's just her... ignore it" I don't think that's right.
I have tried most of these things. It got to the point where they accused me of being on drugs and I almost sued them... it's like she's there favorite I've never dealt with something this immature before
Very high school. I think they were her favorite too. But I managed to disband the clique. Just leave.
Honestly, I’m pretty sure everyone except for me was on drugs. One of their tactics is projection.
We all know Karen
Aka why I left FAANG. She got promoted 3 months after I left, by the way.
Yup, leave. Management is on her side. They’ve made up their mind. Most likely she’ll continue to drive good talent out, management won’t give a shit until it’s too late, and they’ll get canned after a couple years as well for not delivering good results. I’ve been in the same situation myself too, and tried most of 1-6 above, but ultimately the real problem is management and that won’t ever get solved. So just do 7.
I quit and get a better job somewhere else. And I make sure to mention in my offboarding interview that I'm quitting because of the bully
Hmm. I’m curious as to why you would mention this person to HR when you’re leaving. Second, why would you go to the off board interview?
I mentioned the person because of a sincere hope that the company would solve the problem (they did not) Offboarding interview was mandatory. It was mostly things like "turn in your badge" and "here's your COBRA paperwork"
If people on the team behave like this and management thinks it is OK, I would just leave.
HR?
Leave, but before you do, have a meeting with HR and then make her life impossible
You have choices: 1) Play along 2) Ignore her 3) Beat her at her own game 4) Kill with kindness 5) Get extremely toxic and political and turn the tables 6) Constantly upstage her 7) Leave The only one that every worked for me was a combination of 5 and 6.
Then she got in a lot of trouble and ended up in court and getting banished basically.
Toxic people aren’t worth it. I ended up leaving later too. If I could do it also over again, I’d just choose number 7.
