Problems not necessarily harder, but hiring bar is higher since they hire less people. You can’t really make a mistake. They also asked some multithreading / OS related questions. I interviewed at citadel and two sigma this year.

I interviewed with 2 sigma. Wasn’t that hard imo but I didn’t get an offer tho

Not all leetcode. Could go really deep on what you claim to know for example c++ or OS. In general much harder than FANG

When I got an offer from Snap I did not find the interviews harder than Salesforce or Google. Just one data point though.
These companies just want to maintain a fake aura of elitism around themselves. Interestingly, a lot of these companies are based in NYC, where there is shortage of well-paying tech jobs. Pretty sure if these companies were in Bay Area or Seattle, no one would have given a shit. Sooner or later, the aura will go away and these companies will actually struggle to hire people. Throughout history, companies who have had unnecessarily hard recruiting processes have regretted it over time.
Straightforward Leetcode Hard...dude...
Their interviews are different compared to Google or Facebook. They focus on more on multi threading, real problems than leetcode. For top tier high tech, you get in if you hit their hiring bars; but for top tier HFT, just hitting their hiring bars is not enough, your school, your credential, prestigious places you worked... play a big part too, simply because they hire limited # compared to top tier high tech. That’s why sometimes even you did a perfect interview, you got rejected.
