One of the things I loved about my time in Amazon and Microsoft is the fact that I was able to switch teams very easily. How hard/easy is it to do that at FB? Is it encouraged or looked down upon?
From what I have heard, it is easier to switch teams at Facebook than it is at Microsoft or Amazon.
Fairly easy, but that does depend on your performance, your manager, and your org.
Can you switch from technical account manager to software engineer?
Even easier than Google, which I already felt was completely reasonable about switching teams
I've lost a lot of great teammates to team switching - it's pretty easy. You have to be in a role for a year, and meet minimum performance requirements - and they are pretty minimum. Managers are told they should make it easy for you - most are good about actually doing so, some are more touchy and require you to be a bit more thoughtful about not bruising their ego.
As an engineer, easy after a year as long as you haven’t had poor performance evaluations.
It is generally very easy (and encouraged every couple of years) if your performance is good. Role change (e.g. swe / tpm-> pm) is hard, requires a full interview loop and comp is not fully adjusted
Not sure how posting on Facebook would help with this. Are you even friends with your coworkers? I would just talk to your manager in person.
I think interviews are mandatory, but I'm not sure. The one I had was one casual chat with the director (informational, so wouldn't count as an interview), one technical interview, one behavioral with the hiring manager, one with a director from another team (also behavioral). By easy what I meant is that everyone was encouraging of the idea of trying other teams.
Technical interview? Shoudn’t the work u have done + perf review speak for ur abilities? I can understand behavioral o see fit, but... how does it work at amazon?
