How much $$ do I need to travel for a year?

I need a break from tech, and sick of working on useless shit at Amazon.

That's why I've decided to take a year off to solo travel abroad. This will be combination of living in some places for a month, and other places only for a few days.

Currently thinking of taking this route: Central/South America-> Southern/Eastern Africa-> Egypt -> Dubai-> Central Asia -> Vietnam-> Philippines-> NZ -> Eastern Europe. The end

Not sure if I'll have enough time for all of that, but wondering how much it might cost in total? Is 40k going to be enough?
I want to travel in comfort, but not luxury.
Mostly private rooms in hostels

    Pls don’t go to Dubai. There’s nothing there that you’d actually want to experience on a once ina lifetime trip

      Dubai is easy stopover for this trip. Worth landing there but spreading a week over nearby cities. But after that, don't need to go back

      I agree after 3 months I was home sick..it cost like 2g / month housing and I spend little like 1k a month. I went to Europe, Hawaii, west coast USA .. all places probably more expensive than what you’re thinking. And I did Airbnb not hostels

      OP if you don't know the answer to this question you have not done sufficient planning to budget for this trip.

      Marriott or Hilton are global and fairly comfortable. I'd just cash in some points and do it that way

      If you dont have a lot of history with traveling- a year of it's usually more nightmare than refreshing- and depending on your stops is more life threatening than extending. If your hanging out at a hostel and have 40k - your the absolute best target for violence.

      Just be safe. I'd very carefully select my stays, and be very selective in the countries I chose to stop in. That would probably make 40k entirely insufficient for more than 3-4 months for me if I didnt have status and points in the bank. My groups regularly hitting >100k per person with ~60% travel (but it's all state side, and we average a flight every 2-3 days)
