https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CIXZljyQAo This video was recently posted by The TechLead, and I was somewhat shocked to hear about this. Are immigrants/H1Bs really treated this badly?
Probably not abused by fb, but check icc h1b abuse
Never saw it in good companies.
This guy is shit. Not my experience. Is he claiming fb and google hire h1bs so they can pay less?
Yes. Aren't u automatically down-levelled when applying from international? I feel my foreign colleagues and I are way under-levelled compared to US employees. It's like 10+yrs exp vs 3yrs with exactly the difference in effectiveness you would expect with that. I'm sure that's not the case for everywhere however.
Speak for yourself, I’ve seen it opposite. Same YOE, but much better technically yet I’m lower than some h1b colleagues. Lots of anomalous noise in interview process
Can you guys hear audio on YouTube videos on blind? I can’t. It also doesn’t allow me to link out to the app as I get a frame load error. As an FYI to smart advisors, Yes I can open YouTube separately and search for title manually.
This has been a bug with blind for quite a while. I noticed it too.
+1
its muted by default. u have to unmute it.
Yep, it’s true. Look at any big tech company and you’ll see plenty of H1B Indian and Chinese who have a poor command of the English language. However, I don’t like him using the word “slave.” Abuse, sure, but this is far from slavery as workers can quit and return to their home country.
So you sell your house, possessions, move your family across the world to the USA, enrol in schools, sign a lease, buy new stuff, etc. and then you think it has no impact getting fired and being forced to leave the country? For most people it equates to a loss of tens of thousands of dollars not to mention lost potential earnings of both yourself and your spouse. That's not even taking into account the emotional toll which could lead to divorce, etc. It is well known this is readily abused by employers as leverage.
It's just a fact of life and the risk vs reward. Yeah, it really sucks but most people know this upon accepting the job offer. It's their decision to accept that risk.
Totally true, the new era of slavery. but you know guys always standup don't be afraid. “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything,” .
Many foreigners with 10+ yoe are hired at entry level because they are on H1B, which means less bargaining chips
Who the hell is this guy?
