Anyone have any insight into the company? I currently am in telecom and want to find out more about the company culture at Hulu.
A couple of people from AT&T / DirecTV's LA-based product team have moved over to Hulu over the past few months. They seem to like the culture enough.
Isn't Hulu owned by Disney and Fox?
And Comcast
hulu will suck your soul like any other large enterprise company. but since it's privately owned (ie no stock) they pay really well with super rich retention bonuses.
Nah, I've worked at 2 other Top 5 techs and the fact that Hulu is private means they never get overburdened by politics and thousands of engineers twiddling their thumbs backstabbing each other with ambition. The comp is fantastic. We're by the beach, have more snacks than you can count and it's really hard to get in. Good luck finding something better 😉
Just ask a Hulugan to give you a referral, MUCH faster that way
I just got contacted by recuiter from Hulu through LinkedIn. Is that a good route to go?
It's a low-performing culture. Good if you want to coast, bad if you actually care about your work product
Does it vary between teams? I don't want to work with slackers.
My friend used to work there and he hated it. He thinks the company is run by idiots. I also don't see how they can compete with Amazon and Netflix in the SVOD space.
Can confirm that Hulu traditionally has struggled, particularly because of issues stemming from its split corporate ownership. They're starting to turn the ship around though and finally found a flagship show (Handmaid's Tale) to dangle in front of critics and creatives alike, so a lot of Hollywood is watching them to see what they do next. On the other hand, from my experience, Amazon really doesn't know what they're doing on the creative development side. They're nowhere close to Netflix, even though they have the infrastructure in place to aggressively compete if they could just get their shit together.
Netflix does have better originals than Amazon. But Amazon's size, platform, Prime, are advantages. I think Netflix is its only rival in SVOD.
