Hyundai Elantra vs Toyota Corolla

I am confused between the two for new 2018 models. Major use as a commute car. Need a low maintenance, reliable care for long run. My budget is only 20k out the door. Which one should I get ?? Elantra is 3000 dollars cheaper than Corolla. Credit 750+ Edit: Based on feedback Nissan is out. It's between Corolla 2018 and Elantra 2018.

Elantra 2018 is coming with 100 k / 10 yr engine + transmission warranty and 60k/5 yr bumper to bumper warranty.

that is classic Hyundai warranty. In my experience, you start getting issues not covered by the warranty right at the 60k mark.

Honda Civic

Honda won't finance

Salesforce -l Feb 19, 2018

Try Subaru. Maybe Mazda 3. Some people like Kia soul though I never drove one. Btw Honda gives financing, I.e. I had it at 0.9%. Is it a credit problem on your side? I had two altimas, 96 and 2001. I am done with Nissan. Not "Japanese quality" cars. Toyota is good. Salesmen are arrogant assholes, cars are good but not fun to drive. Camry 2001 ran without problems, nice family car. got bored of it, sold with over 120k miles. No repairs at all, only scheduled maintenance. Rented Hyundai a few times, Sonata recently. So so car. It works but everything slightly wrong. Mirrors slightly too small, gas pedal had slightly not enough move, engine is slightly too sluggish etc, whatever you touch is slightly not god enough. Liked the rear view camera. I am not super picky but couldn't adjust to it in a week.

Nissan Leaf. Had it for 7 yrs now, only maintenance was to change the tires and wiper blades, seriously. Driven it for 80k miles now. It is my commute car. Everything else still original including the 12v battery. Best car ever had.

Not in my 20k budget

Used Leafs are around $10k or less. No need to buy brand new. I also think after federal and state incentives a new Leaf will be close to $20k

Get a used car.

Corolla no doubt for reliability, Hyundai is a lot better after 2014 but before that they are not too reliable. Stay away from Nissan with Jatco CVT, once it slip that is a 7k replacement, and Altima is a mid size, Sentra is the same size class as Corolla and Elantra.

Friend got a new 2017 Hyundai Sonata for 18k. Sweet car. Fully loaded w/ Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Corolla for reliability, hands down

I really like my 2013 Elantra. It is the basic level of them and doesn't get the the best gas mileage in Seattle but it is an enjoyable car to drive. It has done splendidly on long trips and I commute by public transit so how it behaves in the city doesn't bother me much.

Can't go wrong with Honda or Toyota. I wouldn't go with a Nissan you might have a lot of reliability problems. I have a 2014 Altima myself and even though I have 133K miles on it (Uber 2 years) a lot of shit starting going wrong for 1 the headlights casing burnt, and transmission is started to slip

My nissan gave me problems as well. Its a shame because Nissan is better at interior quality and tech. If only they focussed more on other things.

Refreshing to see a discussion about average but reliable cars. Got really bored of seeing a lot of BMW posts.

Yeah I am trying to get some good advice here on practical cars since I intend to buy one
