The other day I went to Whole Foods to buy some fruit. While checking out, the cashier guy looked kind of tired and annoyed. After i made the payment, i asked the casier why the price is different from what i saw while bagging the fruit. He told me that price is for Prime members and asked me if i am a Prime member and i told him yes i am a prime member. Since all the cashiers usually asked me if I am a Prime member while checking out. i told him maybe he should ask me if I am a Prime member before letting me pay. That’s when he got angry and told me I should not be a baby and should tell him I am a Prime member even if he did not ask. We both raised our voices and I asked him to speak with his the manager. He then told me to get away from his face. I told him I want to speak with his manager. He then threatened me saying he can quit his job right now and I better get off his face. He threatened like that multiple times. I waited for the manager and told him what happened. I told the manager the way the employee threatened me was very inapproproate. Manager apologized, took my number and promised he will follow up. Today, i got a call from the manager and according to him, the cashier guy was fired. So, who was the asshole here ?
What? Stop creating idiotic hypotheticals
How would you feel if OP committed suicide because of this response?
His response was unprofessional but you should have clarified that you qualify for a discount. It's not on them to check if you qualify for any of their promotions
Key point here, he looked tired and annoyed. Maybe he was having a rough time in his personal life. In these situations, de-escalate and back off when hostility arises. It’s good that you’re posting about this on here. It means you have a soul and some humanity left. If you don’t ask yourself how to improve next time, you’ll never improve.
Outstanding advice. Seeing people like you at Uber gives me hope that the company culture indeed is changing.
You might be in his shoes and you play his role at work. Karma is reciprocal.
It's really not. Have you seen our leader of "The Free World"?
The leaders life is not over yet so 🍿
The way you wrote it made it seem like cashier definitely was at fault. But that's your viewpoint. Who knows what you actually said to him and tone used. You could have provoked him. Either way you should watch your ass and make sure you are not tailgated. He sounds like he's got nothing to lose
Sounds like marijuana withdrawals.
Wut
You triggered him. He shouldn’t have been triggered that easily though. But you cannot blame him for NOT asking you for prime membership. Anyway, I think he already had an Albertson’s offer lined up!
Where is "all of the above" This is the kind of thing that happens when assholes collide.
Actually the wisest answer here. 🙌
Sometimes I want to get people fired because they sneeze right in front me into their hands just before handling my items. Happened at Whole Foods. Sometimes some QFC folks are so dirty and full of warts it’s unbelievable. I have kid so I really get upset when people with such poor hygiene handle my grocery! Many Starbucks folks have similar problem. One day while taking my order a hippie young lady paused me, and sneezed three times with face/mouth uncovered and pointing her both hands towards the ceiling (like a tuning fork). Then we just exchanged smiles and I walked out on her.
Stop ruining people's lives
Do your job, or find a job you can do while still acting like a decent human being. If you're having a rough day, say so.
You can do you job 99% of the times and due to a very bad situation, you can be off for the 1%.. Firing is not a solution.
