For finance teams, do I-banks really still only hire from Ivy Leagues or top 20 schools? At least for engineers there's a coding component, where people can prove their abilities. Seems backwards and somewhat elitist to choose based on who can afford the best education. Anyone an i-banker here that didn't graduate from a prestigious school? How did you get the job?
It's def easier if ur from a top tier, but nowadays they intentionally hire from not so famous schools too as the ivy kids have a habit of job hopping after 1 to 2 years
Only Ivy's: No. Only prestigious schools: kinda. Only top ~50 schools in nation will have spots reserved for their students. Very hard to get a job otherwise, although YMMV
Know atleast 20-25 people going to IB next year from my school, and we’re an top 40, so Ivy isn’t necessary
I know some who got in without going to top school. They are really special cases tho.
