Where were you working & what were you doing before FAANG & bloom of Tech? Edit: Name the companies & job titles. Talking about pre-Facebook/Snap/Instagram era
Tech was basically support or back office work then.
You're a fucking idiot. The Facebook campus was literally the Sun Microsystems campus. Practically speaking, very little has changed and the current bubble feels exactly the same as 2000.
They asked what it was like—I told them. Tell them your side of it dumb fuck, lol.
Tech was IT. Fixing computers.
TIL tech is only 10 years old
Not according to the app I’m working on.
Software engineer.
Lol. If you’re 40+ your got to ride the dotcom roller coaster. Do you think tech came around the last 10 years?
I was at Amazon in 2001. Should have stayed but I wanted to live in California. Joined a startup, had FU money for a while and lost it all.
How did you lost it? Girls and weeds?
Tech was IT from 80s - 2006/2008. Really all the people I know who worked with technology did not have any sort of glamour as a top career in society. You were pretty much guaranteed to work with a lot of nerds and geeks - which was what we all wanted at that time. It was a ok paying field where you could have a career in a similar way to an accountant - pretty good median pay with the ability to work with geeky friends.
General IT Unix admin, prison, loads of Java development consulting, Google.
Everywhere, lol. Hospitals, consulting firms, retail, etc. Doing computer work or high level computer programming or support.
