Doing some quick calculations based on UK tax rates using moneysavingexpert.com, with £120k pa as the household income. If i earn 100k pa and my partner earns 20k, I will pay 33.5k and my partner will pay around £3k in taxes, combined total of 36.5k if i earn 120k pa by myself I will pay 45k pa in tax if a couple earn 60k pa each, they will pay about 16.5k in tax, combined total of 33k Why not allow taxation on household income instead of individual income? it seems more fair to me to allow that as an option.
It is always on the household income if you are filling jointly.
What country does that apply to?
US - for sure.
The downside of the household income system is the "marriage penalty". If you both make 120k, then the combined household 240k tax is much more than 2 single 120k tax bills combined.
Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
