Hey guys!

I have an internship offer from Intel PSG (Programmable Solutions Group) in San Jose and another from Intel CVCG (Core and Visual Computing Group) in San Diego.

Anybody has any opinions about both these teams?

P.S. Both are RTL/Design Verification roles.

I’m in Intel San Diego - do NOT come here. While the CVCG group is new and pretty nice, the Apple acquisition is gonna throw things for a loop. If you’re looking for stability and a return offer, San Jose is the way to go. Most of the people in this building are from the modem group which is being acquired by Apple. As of now, rumor is Apple is going to take the whole building, so the other Intel teams will probably get kicked out (Nervana/CVCG/NGS).

No one knows where they’ll be after that - will Intel move everyone to the VC campus in SD? Might be too small. Will they get another building? who knows. They might just force everyone to relocate.

Go with SJ for stability/return offer!!

Stability in SJ PSG is a joke.

@handle_me, might be a joke but at least you have a building to be in

Damn. I was aware about the Apple acquisition but I didn't know the full extent of its ramifications on the SD office as a whole. Thank you!!

OP you shouldn’t care about stability honestly. Take some risk in life at this age, it will pay off in unexpected ways.

    I would have picked PSG.

Also maybe in San Jose with more number of teams conversion to full time might be easier if that matters to you

It does. I graduate in December, so, I am looking for a full time position.

It's just that the CVCG group is working with cutting edge Tech like IoT, GPUs and stuff which is great..

Don't do psg if it's a customer facing role. None of me peers who ended up in psg were super competent.

Well yeah. Makes sense. But I'm not sure if I can do this though. Because I don't think I'm in a position to negotiate cause I barely have any work experience going into this internship.

You're not negotiating, you're asking what you'll be doing. I would want to know what the hell I'll doing at an internship

The team defined the work to be in RTL Design. Now, whether it's consumer facing or internal use or whatever is not something that teams generally tell their interns, right?
      Aug 23
    • Xilinx LKLA78
Engineering usually doesn't face the customer, and certainly not interns, don't worry about it.

    • Toshiba / Eng STX Puts
Just to be clear, customer facing != Consumer facing. At a company like Intel, if you were in a customer facing role you would be interacting with the Dells and HPs of the world.

The internship offer includes the annual pay and you can calculate your monthly salary. Assuming you will be offered full time, Full time would have similar difference in pay, better San Diego if not much difference in pay. (San Jose you get geographical bonus)

I used to work in PSG. My advice, don't go there unless you will change to a higher paying job later. If you want to stay at the same job for 5 years then go to San Diego. Otherwise, you will go broke at PSG in San Jose, and it's not even as fun as San Diego.

Generally you want to work closer to the mothership earlier in your career to make connections etc. San Jose isn't the mothership (it's only a few minutes drive but it'll feel far from rnb) but it's much closer than San Diego. I worked at psg, don't know anything about cvcg

I was not in tech, so didn't work with engineers. I was also at other groups at Intel, I felt the level of competence was a bit lower than Intel, the people are super nice unlike the rest of Intel tough.
