Title. This was for a PMM role. I was contacted by a C1 recruiter about a month ago. Phone screen went well, phone call with hiring manager went well (said she was excited to move me forward in the process). Recruiter says interviews would be this week. I reach out on Monday, recruiter says they are still pinning down a time. Get a call today saying they aren't moving forward with filling the position and that if I find another role I'm interested in to contact her, etc. What the hell? Is this common? Unsure if this was a late rejection or they found a better fit while keeping me in the wings for a month. Either way, it was a pretty negative experience. Can anyone weigh in here? Thanks in advance.
“aren't moving forward with filling the position” headcount cancelled, it happens.
Whatever they aren’t hiring you .... happens all the time. Just accept it and move on.
It’s probably not a reflection on you. Business needs change. We are limited as to how many job requisitions each department can have open at a time. I have had an open req closed because my leadership decided it was more important to fill a different req - so mine got closed while a different one got opened. (I didn’t disagree - mine had been open for awhile and I was not getting many well qualified candidates applying)
I appreciate this insight; thank you for sharing. The recruiter did share that they were still vetting candidates several weeks after they had determined they wanted to bring me in for an on-site, so it sounds like this might be the case. In your opinion, is it worth following up with the recruiter re: other roles? There are a few that I could do, but none are as great of a fit as this particular role (imo).
You have nothing to lose by doing so- personally I would go for it
The Climate Corporation, what in the fucking world is that?
No it’s not a rejection. You haven’t been on site yet so it’s definitely not you. It’s more likely they have an internal move that filled the spot or budget situation. You should definitely search the website for other req you are interested and have the recruiter send your resume forward.
Thank you. I did this and am in process for another role.
Awesome! Best of luck
My guess is that it’s out of the recruiter’s hands.
Here’s what happened: You’re the backup. They already zeroed on a candidate and perhaps already extended offer.
Damn. Best way to proceed? My initial thought is to just look elsewhere, though I don't want to dismiss a recruiter who is (potentially) in my corner for another role.
Why would you believe a two-timing recruiter. Ignore them and move on.
