A couple of my friends got emails from amazon while they were in the middle of the SDE recruitment process saying that they have filled their positions and not hiring anymore for 2017. Is this true? Any comments?
Only for new grad I suppose
Not true
No idea.. but if that is true then Amazon may announce cost cutting measures(layoffs) in thier next Q3 results..
Interesting. However with their buzz about HQ2 I assumed there would be more jobs. Among the 50,000 ones promised won’t some % be SDEs?
Perhaps they are cutting down in order to have room for the new hq hires. I work here, but have no idea either. Just speculation.
new grad only.
New grad hiring stopped as of last week. Otherwise there are teams still hiring.
It's been 19 days since I last got a cold contact from an AMZN recruiter, so it could be true.
Not true. I was contacted for an interview and spoke to the recruiter just 2 days back.
So this is probably for only university hires(new grad) positions
Depends on the Office.
Well, this email was agnostic to location
I applied for SDE new grad through university programs in July. I went through the 2 online assessments and then flew out to Seattle in September. They said they would have the results in 5 business days, but they sent me an email saying it was delayed, and then just today, about 5 weeks later, I finally get a call from a recruiter saying all the positions are filled up. They mentioned that it wasn't due to my interview performance, but I imagine that's a lie. It's incredibly frustrating that I went through this 3 month process just to hear that. I did ask if it was only applicable to the Seattle office and the recruiter responded that it was for all SDE university program positions.
I am an Amazon recruiter and I can tell you with 100% certainty that we are not an a company wide hiring freeze. Certain teams may have hit their 2017 hiring goals, but overall Amazon is very much hiring.
With their one-round interview hires and repeating the same questions and what not, I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to fill up!
Amazon only requires one round???
For some people yes
